Sudbury Man Caught Actively Downloading Child Porn Enters Plea: Feds

A 50-year-old man admitted to receiving and possessing child pornography after being caught red-handed, federal authorities said.

Tyson Tu, of Sudbury, pleaded guilty to one count of receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography on Wednesday, May 17, according to the US Attorney for Massachusetts.

Tu was arrested on October 15, 2021, after a search of his residence in April of the same year found multiple electronic devices that contained child pornography.

One of the devices was actively downloading and sharing child pornographic files when it was seized.

Tu was determined to have received child pornography between February 20, 2020, and April 31, 2021, through a peer-to-peer filesharing network.

With his guilty plea, Tu is facing at least 10 years of prison and possible fines.

The charge of receipt of child pornography has a sentence of at least five years and up to 20 years in prison, at least five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. The charge of possession of child pornography has a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, at least five years, and up to a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.

Tu's sentencing is scheduled for August 9, 2023.

This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The case is prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of Levy’s Major Crimes Unit.
